So long, Seaside Heights! Jersey Shore is on the hunt for a new home. A tourism agency in Australia says it would like to talk with the producers of the MTV reality show about the possibility of bringing the small screen hit to its shores. Could the popular docu-series be headed to the Outback?
Snooki, Pauly D and the rest of the Jersey Shore gang may soon find themselves fist-pumping Down Under.
MTV producers are reportedly scouting locations in Jersey City, Las Vegas and Los Angeles to shoot the next season of the controversial reality show. Tourism Queensland, meanwhile, says it would like to talk to producers after bulked-up castmembers Michael “The Situation” Sorrentino and Ronnie Ortiz-Magro recently pitched Australia as a possible location.
The cast has filmed seasons in Miami Beach and Italy since the vodka-soaked reality soap first premiered in 2009. Sorrentino says he’d next like to venture to Australia.
You know, where “all the girls are hot.”
Ronnie would also like to visit the Aussie Outback — albeit for an entirely different reason. He’s interested in hitting Sydney and experiencing “the culture.”
“I hear that it’s really big, the show over there, so I’d like to see the feedback we get,” he said this month.
Officials in Florence all but called out the Armed Forces upon learning that the Shorers were headed for their shores. But Tourism Queensland has welcomed the idea of having Jersey Shore film on local soil.
The Shorers would likely enjoy the “vibrant nightlife” to be found along the Gold Coast, says a company spokeswoman. Interest from shows that have a big international following, like Shore, is always welcome, she adds.
“We would welcome any interest and discussions. Obviously the Gold Coast is Australia’s playground, there’s theme parks, hanging out with lifesavers — the Gold Coast also has a very vibrant nightlife,” the representative said.
“Cairns and the Tropical North are very different from anything they would get at home or anywhere else in the world.”
Jersey Shore’s fifth season — following the lives of eight hard-partying housemates — suffered a lackluster premiere when it returned to the tube on Jan. 5. Ratings have been significantly lower than they were during the show’s fourth season, shot in Florence.
The show has been optioned for another season, but none of the cast members have been presented with new contracts.
