George Clooney vs. Brad Pitt: BFFs battle for Oscar

Brad Pitt is up against his buddy George Clooney for the Best Actor Academy Award. Will the fierce competition end this longtime friendship?

It’s bro against bro in the race for an Oscar this year. Besties George Clooney and Brad Pitt have both been nominated for Best Actor — for The Descendants and Moneyball respectively — so how will this affect their backyard barbecues? Is there genuine competition between the two?

“Man, of course. Of course,” Pitt told E! News at the Producers Guild Awards.

“But he’s my friend. I meet so many smart and really interesting people and he’s just at the top of the heap,” Brad gushed about his pal. “I can’t say enough great things about him. I say, give him all the trophies. I say, when they run out of trophies, invent some new ones and give him those, too.”

Pitt told Matt Lauer that despite the close friendship, it will not be weird to be competing with Clooney on Oscar night.

“Absolutely not!” Pitt said in an interview on Today after the nominations were announced. “It’s more fun to have a friend there and no one does it better than George.”

For his part, Clooney told SheKnows that he wishes Pitt nothing but success.

“We don’t ever try to compare things,” Clooney told us at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala. “He’s my buddy, so I want him to do well.”
