It isn’t easy to make it from little St. Thomas, Ontario to mainstream Hollywood – but Rachel McAdams made the transition with style and grace every step of the way.
Rachel McAdams can wear fire engine red lipstick and winged eyeliner with the best of ’em. But it’s her stunning “au naturel” look that makes her really shine. She takes looking effortless to a whole new level — and now you can too! Here’s an easy step by step of how you can snag Rachel’s flawless style.
The base
Any good makeup regime starts with a solid base. If you start with the right base products you can acheive a complexion as even as Rachel’s. You will want to pick a concealer that is a touch lighter than your natural skin tone and a foundation that matches your colour as closely as possible. That way you’ll achieve a smooth, even complexion that matches your natural skin tone. Invest in a good concealer such as M.A.C.’s Select Cover Up. It is the perfect tool to hide those dark undereye circles and spots. M.A.C.’s Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation will also help you get that even tone without looking cakey.
The cheeks
Rachel’s natural look really lets her eyes stand out — so you don’t want to do anything to heavy for the cheeks. A neutral or pale pink shade is ideal because it will give you a hint of rosiness without making you look overdone. No heavy bronzer here! Something along the lines of Smashbox’s Soft Lights collection will do the trick. Apply it lightly to the apples of your cheeks.
The lips
It’s all about the nudes when it comes to Rachel’s lip look. Pick something that complements your skin tone and is similar in color to your natural lips. Avon’s Ultra Color Rich Lipstick offers some great shades such as Sheer Light Peach and Sheer Natural that give you a touch of shimmer without taking away from the rest of the look. You can also top it off with a dab of clear lip gloss to really make it shine.
The eyes
Now this is where the magic happens. Begin with a gold or pale peach shimmering eyeshadow. Apply it to the eyelid and just below the bottom lashes. You can also smudge it into the corners of your eyes to make them look a touch wider. Then choose an eyeliner that isn’t too dark. If you are blonde, opt for a dark brown or if you are brunette, opt for a softer black tone. Something along the lines of CoverGirl’s Perfect Point Plus is great because it comes with a built in smudger so you can soften the lines without using your fingers or a Q-tip. Gently apply eyeliner to the outside rims of your eyelids. Do not come in too close to the corners of your eyes or it will start to look heavy. Softly smudge the liner so that it takes on more of an eyeshadow look than that of a heavy liner. To finish things off — curl your lashes and then apply a mascara that is similar in colour to your eyeliner of choice.
And that’s all there is to it — now you can have Rachel’s natural look any time you want!
