It’s on! American Idol’s Hollywood round has begun

It’s being called the toughest round in American Idol history and we couldn’t be more excited to watch the drama unfold! Welcome to the Hollywood round, contestants!

Is it wrong that we revel in watching the American Idol contestants fall to the pressure of the Hollywood round?

Season 11 kicked off its Hollywood round Wednesday night (Feb. 8) with its fair share of drama, drama and more drama!

There were tears, triumphs and one contestant that just couldn’t keep it together, giving us the best dish of the night.

Symone Black was all too happy to get her chance in front of Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, but just as she was getting ready to justify her song choice, Symone took a nose dive right off the stage.

Medics were called to the scene, but as luck would have it (for us), we won’t find out Symone Black’s fate until Thursday night’s episode.

Fainting aside, there were some great showings…

Round one standouts

After being separated into groups of 10, the contestants were able to choose their own song to wow the judges with — minus in-depth critiques.

Standouts of the night included Savannah star, Phillip Phillips, who originally blew judges away with “Thriller,” and St. Louis star, Lauren Gray, who was dubbed the next Carrie Underwood after her initial audition.

Also making the cut were Hallie Day, Jessica Phillips, Heejun Han, who sang Michael Bolton, return contestant, Baylie Brown, Johnny Keyser and Reed Grimm.

Oh, we’re not done. Rounding out the list was Aaron Marcellus, 17-year-old cutie, David Leathers Jr., Shannon Magrane, Elise Testone and Adam Brock, who appeased Jennifer Lopez with a song she wanted him to sing at his original audition — “Walking In Memphis.”

If we forgot your name on the happy list, our bad — congrats to you too!

Big cuts of the night

Two names left off the list that stunned us, quite frankly, were Jane Carrey and Travis Orlando.

Jane Carrey received a lot of heat for being the daughter of Jim Carrey, but after receiving the ax one round in, haters might want to think again.

Travis Orlando was determined to show the judges he could be a star after auditioning and not making it in the past. His story was just heartbreaking — his mother left his family.

Story aside, his voice wasn’t what the judges were looking for.
