Nicole Richie sticks to an early bird schedule despite often not having anywhere she needs to be. Why would this mother of two be getting up well before the sun?
Nicole Richie is an early riser by choice. The mother of Harlow Winter Kate and Sparrow Madden, who covers the latest issue of Flare magazine, is up before the rooster crows in an effort to save her sanity.
“I wake up at 5:30 in the morning, every morning, so I can be alone,” Nicole Richie shared. “I don’t have anywhere to be, but mentally, I like to go downstairs and drink my coffee… I’m telling you, it changes my entire day.”

Joining her at a more reasonable hour are husband Joel Madden and their two children. Harlow, now 4-years-old, remains clueless that there is a pair of fashion lines named after her: House of Harlow 1960 (jewelry) and Winter Kate (women’s apparel).
“She has no idea that she has two lines named after her — I try and let her be a kid,” said the 30-year-old who will soon be fittingly seen as a mentor on NBC’s Fashion Star.
Along with keeping Harlow in the dark about her fashion fame, Nicole Richie is teaching her children not to look up to celebrities as role models, a lesson she recently tried to impart on a fellow parent.
“I was just talking to a friend of mine who has two little girls about a certain singer whose name I won’t mention,” Nicole Richie explained.

“He was really upset, saying she wasn’t a good role model for his kids. But here’s the thing: That girl is twentysomething, so she shouldn’t be a role model to your little girls. She’s human, and it’s unrealistic to put people on a pedestal and expect that they’re not going to make mistakes.”
