Duggars do good: Lemonade stands for cancer

The Duggar family is rolling up their sleeves and getting to work to help raise funds for cancer research. Read on to find out what inspired their giving and how it will be covered on 19 Kids and Counting.

What are those crazy Duggars up to now? The family has rolled up their sleeves and put themselves to work on this week’s episode of 19 Kids and Counting.

Michelle, Jim Bob and 17 of their 19 kids spent the day learning the ins and outs of running an Auntie Anne’s pretzel franchise, then strapped on their charitable shoes to raise funds for cancer research.

“The Duggars are a truly selfless and giving family, and we were so impressed with their efforts to help support our national charitable partner, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation,” said Bob Phillips, owner of the Auntie Anne’s at Pinnacle Hills Promenade mall in Rogers, Arkansas. “We had a blast teaching them about the history of the pretzel, our 24-year-old company and what goes into operating a small business like ours; it was an experience I’ll never forget!”

After they finished up at Auntie Ann’s, the Duggars decorated and helped operate a custom built Alex’s Lemonade Stand as part of a competition to raise funds for the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. The group is part of a national fundraising movement carrying on the legacy of Alex Scott, a young cancer patient who started her own lemonade stand so other kids wouldn’t have to go through what she was. Scott died in 2004 but her legacy goes on — as you’ll see in this special episode.

“Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is honored to have been introduced to the Duggar family through our charitable partner Auntie Anne’s,” said Jay Scott, co-executive director of the foundation. “It was thrilling to see the entire family come together for a friendly lemonade stand competition, and the imperative nature of the cause was certainly evident through the participation of several area children currently battling childhood cancer.”

You can help the Duggars raise money for cancer research at their online lemonade stand.
