Director Simon Curtis on turning Michelle into Marilyn >>

SheKnows brings you an exclusive look behind-the-scenes with this featurette available only on the DVD, which releases March 13.

“There was a lot of pressure on all of us on both sides of the camera,” says director Simon Curtis, who was responsible for pulling off this real life makeover.

The film is about Marilyn Monroe’s trip to England in 1956 to film The Prince and the Showgirl. While filming, she struck up an uncanny friendship with one of the assistants on the film, and he later wrote a biography about the experience which became the source material for this movie.

Kenneth Branagh, who plays Sir Laurence Olivier in the film, says he was impressed by the set design and attention to detail. The movie was filmed at the famed Pinewood Studios in England, the very place where the original film was created. “To walk down the corridors… to walk on the very sound stage… to rehearse in some of the rooms that they rehearsed in… it was wildly exciting,” says Branagh.

“It was very emotional,” Curtis adds when speaking of how many filming similarities there were between the two productions. This exclusive featurette takes audiences behind-the-scenes of My Week With Marilyn.
