Oh boy, Kanye, what have you gotten yourself into now? The not-so-shy rapper deliberately disses the non-profit animal rights group in his song, stirring up a whole lot of backlash and drama.
Leave it to Kanye West to respond to controversy the only way he knows how — through his music.
The “Dark Fantasy” artist has reignited his long-lasting feud with PETA after mentioning the non-profit animal rights group in his newest record, “Theraflu.” Known to express himself whenever he feel likes, the musician blatantly mentions the group in one line of the song, rapping, “Tell PETA my mink is draggin’ on the floor” — and PETA wasn’t so pleased by the not-so-nice shout-out.
“What’s draggin’ on the floor is Kanye’s reputation as a man with no empathy for animals or human beings,” says the PETA’s senior vice president, Dan Mathews, to XXL. “He’s a great musician but doesn’t seem to have the fashion sense to design anything more than caveman costumes.”
Ouch. PETA isn’t afraid to mince words, is it?
This isn’t the first time Kanye and Dan have had an altercation about the musician’s choice to wear fur. In 2010, he was furious at the 34-year-old when he and then girlfriend Amber Rose showed up to Paris Fashion Week in long fur coats.
“Kanye can’t help making himself look like an idiot, whether at an awards show or a fashion show… He and his girlfriend look like pathetic creatures from a shabby roadside zoo,” said Dan to the Daily Mail.
This definitely has not been PETA’s best year when it comes to celebrities. Currently the group is still in hot water after Kanye’s new rumoured love flame, Kim Kardashian, was flour-bombed on the red carpet at her fragrance launch event, leaving the reality star covered from head to toe. Although PETA said it had no involvement in the disaster, the woman who conducted the act was revealed to be closely tied to the group. Shortly after, Kim’s sister Khloe Kardashian said she would no longer support the group.
But don’t think that PETA is out to get celebrities through harsh criticism or outlandish pranks. Dan told XXL he wouldn’t mind ethically throwing out this feud and creating a pact with Kanye.
“We keep hoping that one day he’ll find his heart and join evolved style icons — including Russell Simmons, Pink and Natalie Portman — who have dropped animal skins.”
