Recently, I had the fun opportunity to host a Spring 2012 Fashion Trends event at Bloomingdale’s in Santa Monica, California. While bantering with the Bloomingdale’s stylists, we talked not only the latest spring trends, but fashion tips on how to flaunt your accessories this season. So if your budget may not allow you a whole new wardrobe this spring, try to incorporate some fabulous bags, baubles and shoes.
Bold handbags and shoes
This season, the hottest handbags and shoes are color blocked in two or more shades. Whether it’s a neutral paired with a hot hue or two bold colors, color blocked handbags, sandals and pumps will make you a fresh fashionista. We’re currently crushing on these Giuseppe Zanotti Color Block Peep Toe Pumps ($795) and these more budget-friendly Jessica Simpson Bede Color Block Peep Toe Pump (above), $79.
If you’re even bolder, go for a neon yellow, pink or green bag or shoes to make a bright, sassy statement. We’re loving these neon patent pink pumps by Guess ($90) and this Kate Spade Cross Body Bag (above), $158. The key here is to pick one trend per look, so if you have a color blocked satchel, go for more neutral shoes in the same color family. If you decide to sport neon pink pumps, pair them with a white or black purse or clutch.
Clutches for day
Clutch handbags are not just for nighttime! The latest spring styles are larger and can be used during the day. These are perfect for a chic lunch out with your best gal pals. One to try is this mar y sol Gigi Flower Clutch ($70).
Ocean-inspired jewels
Bracelets, necklaces and earrings are naturally stunning this spring in turquoise, lapis, sea glass and agate — usually mixed with gold. Try a bib necklace like this Aqua Three Row New Cluster Bib Necklace ($35).
Metallic high heels
Replace your nude and black heels with the latest hues in bronze, gold, silver or pewter. These metallic heels give a fresh look to any outfit and you will see them in pumps and sandals (and all heel sizes). Try these Metallic Peep Toe Pumps by Guess, ($99).
Vintage eyes
Sunglasses are going retro-glam with cat-eyes and round frames (the material of choice is plastic!). This is probably the easiest way to feel like a super style star this spring! Some vintage sunglasses to try are Kate Spade New York Rounded Cat Eye Sunglasses, ($128) or for a flashback to the past, try Pink Ladies, try these Ralph Rounded Pink Fade Sunglasses (above) ($89).
