Ron Burgundy is back! Anchorman 2 a go

Time to break out the Sex Panther, kids: Anchorman 2 is finally set for production! Check out how Will Ferrell — in character as everyone’s favorite anchorman Ron Burgundy — announced the sequel on Wednesday night’s Conan.

We were stuck in a glass case of emotion back in 2010 when Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy director Adam McKay tweeted that there wouldn’t be a sequel to the hit 2004 comedy.

“So bummed. Paramount basically passed on Anchorman 2. Even after we cut our budget down. We tried,” he tweeted at the time.

Now? Well, Ron Burgundy is still a pretty big deal — and a lot of people apparently still know him, because the audience at Conan gave him a loud ovation when he appeared on Wednesday night’s show to announce that a sequel is coming.

“As of 0900 Mountain Time, Paramount Pictures and myself, Ronald Joseph Aaron Burgundy, have come to terms on a sequel to Anchorman,” an in-character Will Ferrell said. “It is official! There will be a sequel to Anchorman. There will be a sequel.”

Burgundy didn’t spill any more secrets about the sequel — he was too busy playing his flute. However, Entertainment Weekly is reporting that most of the original cast, including Paul Rudd and Steve Carell, are on board with the sequel, as is original director McKay. Judd Apatow is also set to produce the film, scheduled for production and release sometime next year.

We can wait, but apparently Ron doesn’t think that Conan can. The Action4 newscaster had some constructive criticism for his brethren.

“It’s probably only something a professional like me would notice, but Conan — you look awful,” he said, adding that he needed to fire his hair and makeup people. “Just go under the knife, okay? Go into your doctor’s office and point at your face and say, ‘Doc, it’s a page-one rewrite.'”

Ouch. But hey, he didn’t become the best broadcaster ever without making a few enemies, right?
