Top 5 Redbox DVDs: Chipmunks and a Dragon Tattoo

This week’s Redbox DVD releases include a kids’ story and an adult-only tale. Will you make it a family night — or a date night?

No. 1 — Alvin & The Chipmunks: Chip-Wrecked

Alvin, Simon and Theodore are back — along with the Chipettes — as they get stuck on a seemingly deserted island. Justin Long, Jesse McCartney and Matthew Gray Gubler are back as the voices of the Chipmunks, as is Amy Poehler, Anna Faris, Jason Lee and David Cross. A cute family film for all ages.

No. 2 — The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

This dark adaptation of Swedish author Stieg Larsson’s runaway best-selling series gives us pretty actress Rooney Mara as we’ve never seen her before: As a pierced-and-tattooed computer genius with a taste for wild sex with her boss, Daniel Craig. We can’t say we wouldn’t do the same thing if we worked with the man who is James Bond.

No 3. — Jack and Jill

Now back at Redbox. Remember when Adam Sandler used to hit every one of his movies out of the park? It seems like those days are over, judging from his latest movie, Jack and Jill, now at Redbox. Sandler plays both his character, Jack Sadelstein, and his sister in the movie about what happens when a crazy sister overstays her welcome. Katie Holmes co-stars.

No. 4 — Courageous

Now back at Redbox. Courageous follows four police officers — Adam Mitchell, Nathan Hayes, David Thomson and Shane Fuller — as they learn to become as good at protecting their families as they are protecting the streets.

Rotten Tomatoes: 32% Fresh

No. 5 — Footloose

Now back at Redbox. This remake of the 1984 classic finds Kenny Wormald in the role made famous by Kevin Bacon. In the film, Ren MacCormack (Wormald) plays a transplant from Boston who isn’t down with his new Southern town’s ban on fun and dance. Will they give in and let the kids have fun?
