It’s a sad day for hip hop: Gravelly voiced Adam Yauch from the Beastie Boys has lost his battle with cancer. He was 47. The founding member of the Brooklyn rap group — known as MCA — was diagnosed with a tumor near his salivary gland in 2009.
Beastie Boys fans — including countless celebrities — are reacting to MCA’s death with disbelief and extreme sadness. Mostly, they’re remembering what a good person Yauch was, no matter how much success he had.
