5 Great Memorial Day destinations

This year, why not pack yourself up and head off for the long Memorial Day weekend? Leave your everyday responsibilities at home and enjoy every last minute of the weekend at one of our five favorite destinations.

If you’re single

South Padre Island is located on the tropical tip of Texas and is bordered by the Gulf of Mexico and the Laguna Madre Bay.

Spend your days relaxing on the beach, browsing in the shops and watching the volleyball tournament.

Then, when the sun sets, head out for some fun at one of the clubs on the beach and watch the fireworks.

If you’re married with no children

Boothbay Harbor in the beautiful state of Maine is considered the boating capital of New England.

Spend your nights at the Harborage Inn and spend your days enjoying the picturesque Maine coast.

Don’t miss the boat tour that takes you to Cabbage Island, where a traditional clambake awaits you with fresh clams, lobster and fish chowder.

If you have young kids

Monterey, California, is the perfect destination for families with small children.

With the fabulous Monterey Bay Aquarium, kayak and bike rentals, whale watching and amazing clam chowder on Cannery Row, your family will have no shortage of fun on the California coast all weekend long.

If you have older kids

Memorial Day fun and older kids go hand-in-hand. Check into Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, Texas, for their Memorial Day Beach Blast, where your kids will enjoy more water fun than they ever dreamed possible.

If they get waterlogged, your kids can enjoy live music, games and prizes in the afternoon, while parents can take turns getting pampered at the on-site spa.

If you have teenagers

Boston, Massachusetts, is a great spot for a perfect Memorial Day weekend. Many Bostonians escape the city over the long weekend and head for Cape Cod or Martha’s Vineyard, which leaves the city more accessible to visitors.

Don’t miss the Massachusetts Military Heroes Garden of Flags, where you’ll see 20,000 flags on Boston Common, commemorating Massachusetts’ service members who sacrificed their lives for their country.

While in Boston, snag some tickets to Fenway and watch the Red Sox play ball in their legendary park.
