It’s finally happening. After years of development delays, a Jimi Hendrix biopic is heading to the big screen. The film will reportedly feature Outkast frontman Andre 3000 as the music legend.
Andre 3000 aka Andre Benjamin is putting his familiar face to good use. The rapper-turned-actor is known for his outlandish fashion and great music. Therefore, we’re not surprised he’s been chosen to play rock icon Jimi Hendrix.
According to Rolling Stone, Benjamin will headline the biopic All Is by My Side. It will center on “Hendrix’s early career, tracking his times spent in England in 1966 and 1967 crafting what would become his classic debut album, Are You Experienced.”

All Is by My Side will be written and directed by John Ridley, who previously worked on Three Kings and U-Turn.
This isn’t the first time Hendrix’s story has been told on screen. In 2000, Wood Harris portrayed the troubled guitarist in the made-for-TV-movie, Hendrix.

Benjamin is best known for being one-half of the rap duo, Outkast. Alongside Big Boi (Antwan Patton), Benjamin sold millions of albums and earned six Grammys including one for album of the year (2004, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below).
During the group’s off-time, both members have dabbled in acting. Benjamin has appeared in dramas like Four Brothers (opposite Mark Wahlberg) and comedies such as Be Cool and Semi-Pro (with Will Ferrell).
But does he have the chops to pull off Hendrix? Only time will tell.
