Yipee! It’s no secret that Gwyneth Paltrow and Jay Z are close. The actress has been acquainted with the rapper for more than a decade and has frequented his shows, as well as Beyoncé’s. We imagine they all have big ol’ slumber parties together and eat cookie dough until midnight. . . But that’s not the point we’re trying to make here!
Paltrow has yet again teamed up with the Hov and his online Life + Times magazine, to bring the unsuspecting public a magical playlist entitled “Spring Mix.” And while the snow is yet to melt here in the great North, we’re totally digging some of these upbeat tunes. It gives us hope that one day the sun will shine again.
Naturally, we’ve herded our favourites for your listening pleasure. Who knew Gwynnie was so hip and “in the know” about music?
Haerts — “Wings”

Paltrow described Haerts’ vocals as “gorgeous almost country sounding” and we’d have to agree. This tune has the kind of vibe that you can drive endlessly to. Great song for spring!

Hellogoodbye — “(Everything Is) Debatable”

This is a song that you could probably listen to while dancing in a corn field or while throwing water balloons. It’s very carefree and breezy. Plus, we really like that title.
HAIM — “Falling”

HAIM is getting huge recognition lately. This female-vocals powered band with an 80’s synth twist, is great. This particular Gwynnie-picked track is a Duke Dumont Remix, and it sounds very summer-y.
ScHoolBoy Q — “Collard Greens” (Explicit)

Watch out for those lyrics; they bite! This ScHoolBoy Q track has a fantastic beat and some amazing lyrics. Plus, anything Kendrick Lamar appears on is bound to be amazing.

The National — “I Need My Girl”

The National’s latest album Trouble Will Find Me is so powerful. We’re not sure if we’d consider this a “Spring Mix” type of song, but if it’s good enough for Gwyneth, then it’s good enough for us.
Which song off the playlist is your favourite? And which songs would you add to the mix?
