CeeLo Green has only just been convicted for supplying ecstasy to a woman, now the singer went on a rant about rape, implying that one cannot be raped if they are unconscious.

OK, things are about to get pretty ugly around here. There may be eye-poking involved. So, CeeLo Green recently found himself in the headlines, due to pleading no contest to one felony count of furnishing ecstasy to a woman in 2012. He was sentenced — by the Los Angeles Superior Court — on Friday to three years of formal probation, 360 hours of community service and mandatory attendance of 52 AA/NA meetings. Seems pretty straightforward, right?
But let’s dig a little deeper. In 2012, when the police report was initially filed, Green was accused of sexual assault. He then pleaded not guilty to giving the woman ecstasy and maintained that the sexual contact with her was consensual. The rape count was never filed due to lack of evidence. So, he was sentenced on Friday on the charges stemming from this particular incident. Now, we’re all caught up.

Now, Green was caught in a brand new scandal this weekend, when he engaged in a fiery debate over rape on Twitter, seemingly suggesting that a woman cannot be raped if she is unconscious. In a separate tweet, he implied the opposite — proposing that one cannot be raped if they cannot remember it happening. Do you see how this ties in with the initial charges raked up against him? Of course, the tweets have since been deleted, but quotes of the offensive missives are still floating around on the internet.
“If someone is passed out they’re not even WITH you consciously,” he tweeted, per Buzzfeed. “People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!”
In response to another user, Green continued: “If someone is passed out they’re not even WITH you consciously! so WITH implies consent.”
And in another response, he stated: “so if I TRIED but did NOT succeed but the person said I DID then what really happened?”
Green then deleted the tweets and posted an apology. Then he deleted his account. Then he restored his account without the offensive messages. What do we make of this? It seems as if Green is quite confused about what constitutes rape. To clarify, whether a person is conscious or not, one still needs consent. Actually, if a person is unconscious, just go ahead and assume there is no consent. One should also take into account lack of sobriety, when considering the other party’s consent. This really makes us question the events that transpired between CeeLo and the woman, who accused him of rape.
