It’s easy to forget that Lorde is just a kid, given her maturity and complex music. The singer turned 18 just today and is only now officially an adult.
Oh, this girl puts the rest of us to shame. Lorde turned 18 years old today. Yeah, just today. As in, she was not even an adult before this. Boy, do we feel like overachievers!
San Francisco is not friends with Lorde anymore
The “Royals” singer celebrated her birthday a day early with the release of a music video for her Hunger Games soundtrack song, “Yellow Flicker Beat,” which is magnificent. If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out immediately.

So let’s see… Before Lorde even turned 18, she already won two dozen awards, including two Grammys. Her debut album, Pure Heroine, reached No. 1 on weekly album charts around the globe, and let’s not forget the incredible success of the record’s first single, “Royals,” which was released when the singer was only 16 years old. Lorde also happened to be the first woman to top Billboard’s Alternative Chart in 17 years. How many 18-year-olds can brag about that?
Whoa, Lorde should look like this more often!
Lorde’s maturity and clear vision sometimes allow us to forget her age, which is probably the whole point anyway. Her defence of feminism and resistance of the music industry’s standards have set a beautiful example for the younger generation, which we hope will have an effect. So basically, what we’re trying to say is that Lorde has a lot to be proud of and has achieved more than most adults do in their lifetime — before even hitting the big one-eight.
So, happy birthday, Lorde! We can’t wait to see what you will achieve before reaching your 20s. It will probably be more impressive than our biggest achievement — stuffing 26 olives in our mouth at once.
