A new documentary about Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain is in the works and to be produced by the songwriter’s daughter, Frances Bean Cobain. The film is slated for release in 2015.
So, do you think you know all there is to know about Nirvana‘s frontman, Kurt Cobain? Well, think again. A new documentary, Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck — which took five years to make — aims to show the world that the singer-writer of the most iconic grunge band in history was more than just the lead of Nirvana.
Nirvana says Nevermind 20 years later
The Brett Morgen documentary will be produced by Cobain and Courtney Love’s daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, and is slated for release in 2015. The film will debut on HBO and will be released internationally by Universal.
“The thing about him people might not know too is that he was an incredible visual artist and left behind a treasure chest of comic books, paintings, Super 8 films, all sorts,” Morgen said in an interview with Fact back in 2013. “We are going to do the movie sort of like a third-person autobiography, as if Kurt was around and making a film about his life.”
Cobain died in 1994 from alleged suicide in his home in Seattle after years of struggling with depression and heroin addiction. Nirvana remains one of the most influential bands of all time and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just this year.
Did The Foo Fighters play their last show?
The fantastic thing about this particular documentary is that it’s being produced by Cobain’s daughter, ensuring the most accurate and most wholesome image of the artist. We’re pretty excited about that. We also like the approach to the subject. Instead of focusing on Cobain’s career with Nirvana, this documentary will expand on him as a creative individual.
