Online and offline tributes poured in from around the globe for Michael Jackson on Monday morning.
The pop star died suddenly at home three years ago following cardiac arrest.
He was 50 years old.
It was later found that MJ had been administered a lethal mix of anesthesia meant for surgical procedures and sedatives.
His own doctor, Conrad Murray, is serving a four-year sentence for his role in Michael’s death.
But fans remembered the King of Pop’s life, as “RIP Michael Jackson” trended on Twitter (and pretty much everywhere else in the online world) Monday morning.
Usher tweeted: “RIP Michael Jackson — you will never die in our hearts, your legacy will live on forever!”
Rapper Wiz Khalifa tweeted: “3 years ago today the world lost a legend. RIP Michael Jackson. Your music lives on for you. Thank you for everything!”
Across the pond, X Factor judge Louis Walsh declared: “3 years ago today the world lost a legend. RIP Michael Jackson. Your music lives on for you. Thank you for everything! Retweet for respect.”
Up-and-coming U.K. rapper Mz Bratt also took to social networking site, saying: “R.I.P to an absolute musical legend! Michael Jackson x”
Tributes weren’t limited to the virtual world. Fans gathered at MJ’s California ranch as well as his birthplace of Gary, Indiana.
Another wax figure of the star was unveiled at Madame Tussauds in Hong Kong this weekend to coincide with the sad anniversary.
But, perhaps the best tribute to MJ came from his brothers.
The remaining Jackson 5 — Marlon, Jermaine, Tito and Jackie — are back together and touring again!
Days before the anniversary of their brother’s death, they announced their 16-city “Unity” tour.
The tour will feature slight updates to the “oldies” as well as a tribute with slideshow to the song “Gone Too Soon.”
It marks the first time all of the remaining brothers have toured together since the 1980s “Victory” tour.
