Chelsea Clinton may one day run for elected office. The notoriously private daughter — and only child of former President Bill Clinton and Senator Hillary Clinton — revealed to Vogue magazine she has yet to close the door on that particular career choice. Clinton tells Vogue, “Before my mom’s campaign I would have said no,” she says. “And now I don’t know…”

She goes on, “If there were to be a point where it was something I felt called to do and I didn’t think there was someone who was sufficiently committed to building a healthier, more just, more equitable, more productive world?” Chelsea answers her own question, “Then that would be a question I’d have to ask and answer.”
The 31-year-old Chelsea Clinton graduated from Stanford University, attended Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, completed a Masters of Public Health at Columbia University and is currently pursuing her doctorate at Oxford. In 2010 she married investment banker Marc Mezvinsky in New York. A close friend, Bari Lurie, tells Vogue Mezvinsky helped Clinton through her break-up with longtime boyfriend Ian Klaus. “Chelsea really used Marc as a shoulder to lean on, and it just kind of happened.” Laurie goes on, “She always says that it’s like one of those bad after-school specials.”

Chelsea Clinton has no doubt led an extremly public life since her infancy. Clinton was born while her father was governor of Arkansas and spent her teenage years in the White House during Bill Clinton’s two presidential terms. Despite the spotlight, Clinton has tried to remain private but with time has reluctantly come to accept the celebrity spotlight. “Either it was something I could continue to ignore or it was something I could try to use to highlight causes that I really cared about” she says. “And now I am trying to lead a purposefully public life.”
