Indiana Jones is heading back to theaters. This fall, the 1981 classic Raiders of the Lost Ark is making its IMAX debut. Fans will see Indy and Marion Ravenwood as they’ve never seen them before.
Wednesday, Paramount Home Media Distribution and IMAX Corporation announced Indiana Jones’ IMAX revival.
Raiders of the Lost Ark will run for a limited one-week event starting Sept. 7. It’s the first time the film has ever appeared on the massive screen, making it a must-see for diehard fans.
So what does director Steven Spielberg have to say about his film’s IMAX debut?
“When I saw the stunning quality of the picture and heard the enhanced sound in an IMAX theatre, I was quite literally blown away and hope that audiences will enjoy the experience as much as I did,” said Spielberg.
Well, there you have it. He’s given the new print his seal of approval.
The director’s been busy with both the IMAX and Blu-ray release of Raiders. Spielberg supervised the restoration process alongside sound designer Ben Burtt. They wanted the movie to be the highest possible quality.
Raiders of the Lost Ark is just a part of the Blu-ray box set Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures, which hits shelves Sept. 18.
In addition to all of the thrilling adventures, the set features seven hours of fascinating bonus material, including a brand-new two-part documentary entitled “On Set with Raiders of the Lost Ark — From Jungle to Desert and From Adventure to Legend.” Featuring nearly an hour of rarely seen footage from the set of the film and archival interviews with Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and Harrison Ford, this captivating piece transports fans back to where the legend began.
