The New Edition singer has faced a tough year, losing his ex-wife and getting a DUI. But after this stint in treatment, things can only look up for Brown.
Bobby Brown is not having a great year. A rep for the singer announced last week he has checked himself into rehab.
His ex-wife (and mother of his daughter Bobbi Kristina) Whitney Houston died suddenly in February.
Soon after Houston’s death, Brown was arrested for driving under the influence in Los Angeles. According to NJ.com, Brown was initially pulled over because he was talking on his cell phone, but then he didn’t pass a field sobriety test.
One of the bright spots of the year for the singer was a new marriage. Just a few weeks ago, Brown married his manager, Alicia Etheredge-Brown.
Brown and Etheredge-Brown returned from their Mexico honeymoon only three weeks ago.
The rehab stint may come as a surprise to many fans, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t planned.
“Brown’s representative said in an email Thursday that the R&B singer checked into a ‘confidential rehabilitation center’ last week as part of his agreement following his March arrest for drunken driving in Los Angeles,” said the Associated Press.
The email continues by saying that the move was part of Brown’s plea agreement for alcohol use.
“His attorney Christopher Brown says in a statement that Brown ‘takes his agreement very seriously,'” said the AP.
Brown’s entrance into treatment will hopefully be the last part of a bad year for him. He released a new album earlier this summer and will be on tour as a solo act and with his group New Edition later this year.
Brown’s wife said the singer “is mentally in a good place,” according to NJ.com.
Brown’s daughter Bobbi Kristina tweeted, “Btw [whatever] you hear, I love my father, very much and wish him well in all !!”
There is no word on how long Brown will be in the rehab center, but the New Edition tour will continue Sept. 19 in New York, so he will need to be out by then.
