Famed director Tony Scott reportedly had inoperable brain cancer before leaping to his death from an L.A. bridge in front of many boaters, some of whom allegedly snapped pictures as he fell.
The Director of movies like Top Gun and Man on Fire jumped off of the Vincent Thomas Bridge in Los Angeles Harbor.
A source close to Tony Scott told ABC News the 68-year-old had been diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer before taking his own life in Los Angeles Sunday.
Scott leaves behind a wife and twin sons.
According to the Associated Press, the coroner’s office found several notes to loved ones in his car, as well as a suicide note at his office.
TMZ is reporting Scott, known for beloved flicks from Top Gun and Days of Thunder to Crimson Tide and Enemy of the State, jumped from the Vincent Thomas Bridge at around 12:30 Sunday afternoon.

The gossip site reports he jumped in front of many boaters, including a group of passengers on a harbor cruise.
Some passengers allegedly shot video and took photos of the horrific leap.
TMZ is also reporting older brother, director Ridley Scott, was spotted in the family’s native England, boarding a plane from London’s Heathrow Airport to L.A. Monday morning.

The brothers formed their own production house, Scott Free Productions, responsible for the likes of TV dramas NUMB3RS and The Good Wife and the 2012 flick Prometheus.
According to his IMDb page, Tony Scott had a full plate of projects in various stages of completion, from the TV series Labyrinth to the highly anticipated movie Killing Lincoln, and Prometheus 2.

Director Ron Howard tweeted: “No more Tony Scott movies. Tragic day.”
Val Kilmer, who appeared as “Iceman” in perhaps Scott’s most well-known film, Top Gun, wrote: “RIP Tony. You are the kindest film director I ever worked for. You will be missed.”
“Had the pleasure of meeting TonyScott few years back, and was a true gentleman. Hope u found whatever you were searching for. #not the answer,” wrote Sons of Anarchy actor Theo Rossi.
Actress Alyssa Milano tweeted: “My heart aches. Sending light and love to his family, friends and co-workers. #RIP.”
Critic Roger Ebert called Scott’s death “shocking and saddening,” and noted he was “an inspired craftsman” via his Twitter account.
