With costume design by British designer Jacqueline Durran, audiences are in for the kind of buttoned-up wardrobe that makes for the steamiest of romances. The film is set in chilly 19th century Russia, which means Durran will be mixing a bit of Victorian fashion with some powerful Eastern flare. Gorgeous hats, furs, luscious adornments and fabulous dresses are sure to be out in full form.

Durran received an Oscar nomination for her work on the 2005 film Pride & Prejudice, also starring Knightley as well as Matthew Macfadyen and Donald Sutherland. Durran has also designed for the films Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Atonement.

Hello, Count Vronsky

The new trailer shows Anna in an icy world where only one man understands her—and that man is not her husband, Alexei Karenin, played by Jude Law.

Instead, Anna’s heart belongs to the passionate cavalry officer Count Vronsky, played by relative newcomer Aaron Johnson, who has previously appeared in The Illusionist and Nowhere Boy.

Rich costumes with an even richer story make for a indulgent film, although we hope some of the best parts of the movie are with no costumes at all.

Atonement director Joe Wright helms this adaptation, which releases into theaters Nov. 16.
