Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Tom Hardy are getting together to create a film about a topic they believe in. And DiCaprio seems to be the glue that holds them all together.
A little-known topic is about to get a lot of attention from some Hollywood heavyweights. According to Hollywood.com, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Tom Hardy are working together to produce an anti-poaching film.
“The story was inspired by friends of Hardy’s who are former Special Forces operatives that became anti-poaching fighters in South Africa and other countries,” says the website.
The project is not a surprising one for DiCaprio to take on as he has long been an animal activist. He has known Maguire for a while, and they will be starring in the upcoming film The Great Gatsby together. He also starred with Hardy in Inception.
While it seems like Hardy’s career couldn’t get any bigger than starring as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, the addition of DiCaprio and Maguire to this new film ups his star power. He has already done some big projects, though, including starring 2011’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and the 2013 film Mad Max: Fury Road.
According to Hollywood.com, the film will handle the poaching practice a la Traffic, showing the different sides of the illegal industry.
“The idea is for the film to look at all arenas touched by the poaching world: from the front lines of defense, the poachers themselves, to how the exotic skins and furs end up in the highest houses of fashion in Paris and beyond,” says the website.
Leonardo DiCaprio is currently working on multiple projects, including Django Unchained, The Great Gatsby and The Wolf of Wall Street. Maguire has been equally as busy with his part in The Great Gatsby. He is also currently filming Labor Day and will soon begin filming Z for Zachariah. The Great Gatsby’s release date has been pushed back to summer 2013.
The new anti-poaching project by the actors has not even been written yet, nor has it hired a writer, but it will be a project to look for in the future.
