The Foo Fighters are contemplating a break from music for a bit. Meanwhile, we’re crying over the sad state of music.
Foo Fighters lead singer Dave Grohl had a bit of a deja vu moment on Monday night when the band played at the Reading Festival in Leeds, England — his former band, Nirvana, played the same festival 20 years ago.

“Well, well, well, the f*****g Reading Festival” Grohl told the crowd. “You guys realize we’ve got a lot of songs to play. It’s the last show of the tour and it’s the last show for a long time.”
Wait, what? Some fans thought the announcement meant they’re breaking up. Luckily, that’s not the case — the band is just planning on taking a break after a year of touring in support of their album Wasting Light. Grohl and company might be thinking vacation, but they definitely didn’t phone in their performance. The band played 26 songs during the set, including “These Days,” dedicated to his former Nirvana bandmates Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic.

“I’d like to dedicate this song to a couple of people who couldn’t be here tonight. This one’s for Krist and this one’s for Kurt,” he told the crowd before launching into the song. The 1992 show was the last Nirvana played before Cobain committed suicide. A live album of that performance was released in 2009.
“Reading 1992 was a triumph for the band, but it could have been a disaster. We were headlining a huge festival and the appearance was preceded with many rumors that we weren’t going to make it — or if we did, we’d blow it,” Novoselic wrote in a 2009 piece for Seattle Weekly before the release of Nirvana: Live at Reading. The band came out and rocked it, of course.

“I think the show was such a success because of the audience. They gave so much that it was easy to swat it back. The best moment is the crowd sing-a-long to ‘Lithium,'” he continued.
As for the Foo Fighters break? It’s coming, but they still have a few more shows to play on the tour. Note to Dave Grohl — we’re okay with the break as long as you guys come back, got it?
