Described by Moran as a part memoir, part rant, How to Be a Woman is a delicious, clever and laugh-out-loud funny look at feminism. Moran, who’s British, has been compared to our own uber-popular comedian Tina Fey, and Moran’s memoir has been likened to Fey’s Bossypants. These are no doubt two exceptionally good reasons to read this fabulous book.

According to Moran, women may have the right to vote and be able to take the Pill, but the modern woman is still fighting an uphill battle. She laughs at Brazilian bikini waxes, uncomfortable underwire bras, baby talk and how men fit into all of this. She hits on the things that all women are thinking but so few of them are saying — out loud. Thankfully, we have Caitlin Moran to do that for us!

She’s whip-smart and witty in her observations about women’s lives. She shares hilarious scenes from her own life, starting with what she refers to as her terrible thirteenth birthday, then covering more funny escapades from that day to her career as a writer and her life as a wife and mother.

She writes about strip clubs, the workplace, love, fat, children and everything in between. Each of these topics becomes a platform for talking about feminism in a funny way. Despite what you might take from its title, How To Be a Woman is not a book just for women — it’s definitely one men can enjoy too, because as a society we’ve all experienced these things that Moran is poking fun at. In fact, we’ve all laughed at them, too.

How to Be a Woman by New York Times bestselling author Caitlin Moran is a must-read for anyone who wants to have a lot of good, deep belly laughs while gaining some smart insights into being a woman.
