Longtime co-anchor of NBC’s Today show and anchor of the CBS Evening News, Katie Couric is gearing up for the premiere of her new talk show — Katie. The one-hour show will air weekdays beginning on Monday, Sept. 10 on ABC at 3 p.m. EST.
On Monday, Sept. 10, Katie Couric returns to daytime television with the premiere of her new nationally syndicated talk show, Katie. For the month of September, each episode of the show will feature conversations with guests who, like Couric, are going through transitions — new beginnings — in their lives.
Katie’s first show
All month long, Couric will be celebrating women who are “reinventing themselves.” On the first episode of Katie, her star-studded list of celebrity guests kicks off with Jessica Simpson and Sheryl Crow. Simpson will talk about the many challenges of being a mother and losing weight while under the scrutiny of the paparazzi and the watchful public eye. She’ll also talk about balancing motherhood and her billion-dollar business.
Also highlighting the inaugural show will be Couric’s friend and nine-time Grammy-winning artist Sheryl Crow. Crow composed and performed the theme song for Katie entitled “This Day.” The 50-year-old Crow, like Katie, is a single mom. In what is expected to be an amazing segment, Crow will talk about her recently diagnosed brain tumor for the first time.
Katie’s guests
Couric’s show will feature a wide range of guests over the first month, from Fifty Shades of Grey author E.L. James to superstar Barbra Streisand to Amanda Knox’s former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, who was convicted (and since acquitted) of murdering Knox’s roommate, Meredith Kercher, back in 2007. Other interesting guests to appear on Katie in September include 24-year-old Aimee Copeland, who lost parts of all her limbs to a flesh-eating bacteria, and Sharon and Lexie Love, who break their silence about the murder of their daughter and sister, UVA lacrosse player Yeardley Love.
Heidi Klum, Jennifer Lopez, Demi Lovato, Susan Sarandon, Sofia Vergara, Wendy Williams and a number of other inspiring guests will be featured on the show throughout the month.
Katie’s YOLO
Couric’s own personal mantra and one of the primary themes of Katie is to live life to the fullest, because you only live once (YOLO). On her website, Katie urges fans to submit a video of themselves talking about their own YOLO — “the one thing you’ve always dreamed of doing” because you only live once. What’s Katie’s YOLO? She wants to star in a Broadway show!
Katie’s connection
Couric aims to reach out to her audience beyond the TV screen. Bloggers will be invited into the studio daily to live blog about the show as it’s airing. Katie also invites viewers to connect with her, ask questions and enjoy the dialogue via Facebook, Twitter and on her website at katiecouric.com. We’re looking forward to the premiere of Katie and can’t wait to see Couric take daytime talk by storm.
