NBC confirms order for new Ellen DeGeneres sitcom

Ellen DeGeneres partners with former SNL writer to create a comedy sitcom for 30-year-old single women.

Ellen DeGeneres just signed a new deal with NBC to co-produce a new comedy. The Hollywood Reporter says NBC — which also airs her talk show The Ellen DeGeneres Show — just ordered scripts for the new show in which DeGeneres will be an executive producer. Fellow producer Lauren Pomerantz created the sitcom which centers on a financially successful single woman, who at 32 years old begins to question her romantic decisions. The Hollywood Reporter says DeGeneres and Pomerantz just sold Fox on a separate project; the network plans move forward on another comedy titled “Couple Time.”

Ellen DeGeneres has received major success after her popular comeback to television in 2003 with her talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show. It’s currently in its tenth season, has accumulated a whopping 32 daytime Emmys as of 2011, and just scored its highest ratings since it aired almost a decade ago.

DeGeneres and Promerantz’s new project with NBC will be shot in single-camera fashion and as of yet remains untitled. The Hollywood Reporter describes the show as “[centering] on a successful woman who notices that she’s listed as a ‘single woman’ on the paperwork for the house she’s about to close on and becomes convinced that she just doomed herself to die alone. As a result, she turns to her friends, family, and a therapist to convince her she didn’t make a huge mistake.”
