One day long ago, somebody matched up peanut butter and jelly, and it worked! So here are some unlikely combos we’d love to see at the iHeartRadio Music Festival.
Green Day and Jason Aldean
On the surface, Jason Aldean and Green Day have zilch in common — other than churning out chart-burning singles. Aside from their obvious musical talents, what would make these guys such a killer combo for the iHeartRadio lineup is the devil-may-care attitude they share. Green Day is credited with bringing punk rock back to the American mainstream, and Jason Aldean is known for bringing a little rock ‘n’ roll to country. Both are unapologetically authentic, which has won them legions of die-hard fans. And since Aldean has already dipped his toes into the crossover collaboration stream — with Kelly Clarkson on the smash single “Don’t You Wanna Stay” and Bryan Adams on “Heaven” — he’s primed and ready for a collaboration with Billie Joe Armstrong and the Green Day guys. Granted, Jason probably doesn’t hang with many people in his neck of the woods who wear guyliner, but questionable cosmetics aside, we think these two would come together for one hell of a rockin’ iHeartRadio performance.

Lil Wayne and Taylor Swift
So a few years ago, Taylor Swift joined with T-Pain to make a rap song called “Thug Story.” They performed it on the CMT Country Music Awards, and the video went viral. Why? It was frickin’ hilarious, that’s why. And — surpisingly — even though she was rapping about comically uncool things like living with her parents and baking Caramel Delight cookies, T-Swizzle actually sounded pretty good! We’re thinking a duet with Lil Wayne would be twice as insane. Since Taylor has actually gone on record before to say she’d really like to work with Wayne, it seems like this could be kismet. Plus, since they’re both apparently into stage diving, they could end their iHeartRadio performance with a synchronized crowd jump sure to work fans into a total frenzy.

Linkin Park and Pitbull
Ever since Linkin Park and Jay-Z teamed up for the epic Collision Course album, fans have been waiting for another hip-hop-meets-hard-rock musical foray from Linkin Park (the whole Busta Rhymes blip didn’t really do it for us). Pitbull, perhaps just as tenacious as the breed his stage name comes from, definitely seems up to the challenge — he’s a little gritty with a whole lotta swag, and the energy level of his onstage antics rivals that of a two-year-old hopped up on Pixie sticks. A mashup between these guys could open up other intriguing opportunies — perhaps a little cross collaboration between Pitbull and Jay-Z or between Linkin Park and Pitbull collaborator Ne-Yo could be nice, no? Either way, an amped up Linkin Park/Pitbull iHeartRadio performance seems very likely to elicit the classic “encore” chant from the crowd.

Miranda Lambert and Pink
Who wouldn’t love to see these two gutsy girls get the party started at the iHeartRadio Music Festival?! Neither is known for being particularly timid, so it’s safe to say any performance put on by the two of them would be brazen. Each lady is an impressive dichotomy of tomboy and girlie girl — they often sing about unladylike endeavors such as boozin’, brawlin’, and partyin’ — but when they rock the red carpet in designer dresses, they steal the show. These daddy’s girls also have somewhat matching musical starts; they picked up their penchant for performing from their fathers. While we love their sharp, woman-power anthems — think Pink‘s “U + Ur Hand” or Miranda’s “Gunpowder & Lead” — but we’d really love to see these powerhouse vocalists tackle a stripped-down acoustic performance a la Miranda’s “More Like Her” or Pink’s “Sober.”
Just because you don’t have tickets, doesn’t mean you have to miss out on all the fun!
SheKnows will be covering the red carpets, concerts and after parties, so be sure to check out all the coverage, all weekend long.
