The show has made many announcements in the last week, but all have been good so far. The newest announcement may be the best, since we now know we will have at least another year with The Voice.
The Voice has gone through a lot in the last week, and today, NBC announced one more change. The singing competition show has been picked up by the network for two more seasons.
“This pickup will assure the many dedicated Voice fans that this innovative show will continue to bring some of the most talented new voices to the world’s attention through all of next year,” NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said in a statement to Reuters.
The two additional seasons are scheduled for spring and fall 2013. Last week, the show announced that Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green will be taking a break after this season and will be replaced by Shakira and Usher. When the producers of the show made that announcement, it looked like they were confident they would be picked up for at least another season, but it wasn’t definite yet.
“The Voice, which debuted as a spring show in 2011, moved to a twice-a-year cycle earlier this month, where it is watched by more than 12 million Americans and has drawn bigger audiences than Fox Television’s revamped The X Factor,” said Reuters.
Aguilera and Green said they will be returning for fall 2013, after taking just one season off. The success of the show has boosted the success of both of their careers, so they want to take a break to pursue that. Aguilera will be going on tour to support her new album, and Green will be working on various projects during his break. Both are allowed this opportunity because of the success of the show and their importance to that success.
“The Voice has proved one of the brightest lights in NBC’s struggling programming schedule, as the network seeks to lift itself out of its bottom place among the four leading U.S. free-to-air broadcasters,” said Reuters. The show is a few weeks into its new season on NBC.
