Hollywood is entrenched in a big murder mystery today involving former Sons of Anarchy star Johnny Lewis, his landlady and a suicide/accidental death off of a roof.
Police are reporting today that Johnny Lewis, an actor best known for his work on Sons of Anarchy, is the only suspect in the murder of an 81-year-old woman in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles. Catherine Davis was found slain in her driveway of the home where she reportedly rented a room to the 28-year-old actor.
Preliminary reports show that she was beaten to death, but authorities are still investigating the matter. Officers were called to the residence after neighbors heard a woman screaming. Lewis was seen fighting with several people in the neighborhood after his altercation with Davis. He was then seen climbing up on the roof. Lewis was found deceased in his landlady’s driveway later, due to a possible suicide or accidental fall.
Lewis had seen his share of trouble lately from a stint in a jail and a rehabilitation program for psychiatric, drug and alcohol issues this summer. He had just been released from prison on Sept. 21 and was ordered not to use narcotics during his probationary period. Investigators are looking into the possibility that drugs played a factor in today’s bizarre events.
Sons of Anarchy showrunner Kurt Sutter released a statement saying that, “it was a tragic end for an extremely talented guy, who unfortunately had lost his way. i wish i could say that i was shocked by the events last night, but i was not. i am deeply sorry that an innocent life had to be thrown into his destructive path. yes, it’s [a] day [of] mourning, but it’s also a day of awareness and gratitude. sadly, some of us carry the message by dying.”
While there have been no further comments from the cast or crew of the show other than Sutter’s, celebrities who had worked with the actor over the years reacted to the news on Twitter. Haylie Duff, who starred with him on Raise Your Voice, tweeted, “So sad to hear the news about Johnny. Such a nice and talented guy. RIP.” Raising Hope actress Shannon Woodward wrote, “Johnny Lewis was one of my best friends. He was very, very ill. His actions were a despicable result of that. It was not who he was.”
Lewis was on Sons of Anarchy in the first two seasons but was killed off in the Season 2 finale with the old Hollywood excuse of creative differences. He also dated pop singer Katy Perry back in 2006. Perry is currently traveling in Japan and she has not commented on her former boyfriend’s death as of press time.
