Is this the real reason Colton Haynes is leaving Teen Wolf?

Sorry, Teen Wolf fans. It looks like resident hottie Colton Haynes won’t be back for Season 3.

That Colton Haynes is a saucy little minx. We caught up with him back in September at the 2012 iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas and asked him about Season 3 of Teen Wolf. He insisted he didn’t know anything — producers are too chicken to tell him anything ’cause he’d spoil it, he claimed.

Not true, as it turns out. The actor won’t be back for Season 3 of the hit MTV show.

“These past few yrs have been the best of my life,” Haynes confirmed on Twitter. “I’m sad that this chapter has ended, but excited for a new one to begin. Thx for the love.”

So, what’s going on? Sources told E! News that Haynes was up for a pilot and wanted to pull a David Caruso — you know, leave a hit show while you’re hot, to pursue bigger and better things. It didn’t work for Caruso when he left NYPD Blue, so we’re not sure why Haynes would think he’d fare better.

Other sources claim the pilot wasn’t the reason. Turns out producers of the show planned to drastically cut back his role because they don’t like him. Another source added to Perez Hilton that MTV was livid that Haynes had signed on for Leona Lewis’ new video.

“Colton wants to stay on the show, badly. Apparently, [Teen Wolf creator] Jeff Davis is being irrational…” the source said. “He wanted to cut [Colton’s] episodes to 12 instead of 24. And with that, NOT have him in the first 6 or the last 6 eps, which makes NO sense unless you don’t like someone. It is like death, and during those 12 he is not in, they wouldn’t let him do a movie or anything else.”

Ultimately, he was the one to pull the plug, according to E! News.

“It didn’t make sense for him,” a source said. “It is heartbreaking for him. He is used to hanging out with the cast every day. They are his friends. But he couldn’t agree to a limited role.”

MTV still insists Haynes is on the show for Season 3. Maybe he’s still contractually obligated to be there? Stay tuned for more on this drama.
