President Obama gives his 2 cents on American Idol feud

While many have taken sides over Team Nicki or Team Mariah, no one expected President Obama to weigh in. But he shared his opinion with a Miami radio host.

American Idol
has become such an important part of our culture that when something goes wrong — or, let’s face it, something happens — on the show, a lot of different people from all areas of society like to weigh in.

When judge Nicki Minaj was caught on tape threatening her co-judge Mariah Carey, the usual people shared their opinions, including those involved with the show and with the singers. But since then, others have decided to give their two cents. Just last week, Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks said she would have “strangled” Minaj to death if she were Carey.

But now, a very unexpected voice has decided to share his opinion on the feud. President Obama spoke with Miami radio host Michael Yo about how he feels about both singers.

“I think they are going to be able to sort it out, I am confident,” he said, according to the New York Daily News. “I am all about bringing people together, working for the same cause.”

The commander in chief said the show will make the two friends and that it’s important that they have the same goals in mind. He also said he’d met Carey “and she’s a wonderful lady,” he said.

He then added that while he hasn’t met Minaj, what he does know about her is all good. According to the NY Daily News, he said, “Nicki I don’t know, but I’ve got her on my iPod.”

President Obama then added a note that he probably meant as a compliment but came out more like advice to the two singers: “I think both are outstanding artists and they are going to be able to make sure they’re moving forward and not going backwards.”

American Idol doesn’t air until January, and there hasn’t been much more talk from the show about the feud or how things are going on set. But until someone says that someone has quit, it looks like the new season will be airing.
