Tom Hanks is a stand-up guy, but this morning, he got lost in his character reenactment and dropped the f-bomb on live television!
Tom Hanks is known as one of the nicest guys in Hollywood — he tried to give us $20 at The Emmys, after all — but all bets are off when he gets into character. The Oscar winner stopped by Good Morning America on Friday to promote his upcoming epic, Cloud Atlas. Host Elizabeth Vargas asked him to speak in the accent of one of his characters — and that’s when things got dicey!

“Most of it is swear words,” he warned Vargas before launching into the thick accent.
“I want people to f*****g…,” he said, before realizing his error. Hanks then put his hand over his mouth and apologized.
“Man oh man, I’m sorry,” Hanks said. “I have never done that before. I want to apologize to the kids in America that are watching this right now, and let me say, next time on the show, there will be a seven-second delay.”

ABC later released a statement saying that yes, it’s edited out of future broadcasts.
“This morning Tom Hanks accidently (sic) used an expletive during a live interview on GMA with Elizabeth Vargas. They both immediately apologized on air, and the show was corrected for all the subsequent feeds.”

Hanks really, really felt bad about it.
“WHAT DID I JUST SAY??? Oops! In character! Sorry! Hanx,” he tweeted after the appearance.
Cloud Atlas is the film adaptation of author David Mitchell’s 2004 book by the same name. Co-starring Halle Berry, Hugh Grant and Jim Sturgess, the film takes on six different stories — each requiring the stars to take on several different characters. It’ll open in theaters on Oct. 26.
