LeAnn Rimes is fresh out of rehab and ready to share her story. The 30-year-old singer sat down with Katie Couric for an interview scheduled to air Thursday on the veteran newswoman’s talk show, Katie.

“I feel like I am starting over, even though I’ve had all these years behind me,” the country singer said. “How many people get to [start] over in this day and age?”

Rimes entered the inpatient program on Aug. 30 to deal with emotional problems, but not before she gave an interview to People.

“This is just a time for me to emotionally check out for a second and take care of myself and come back in 30 days as the best 30-year-old woman I can be,” she said, according to People.

“All the things in my life will be there when I get out, but you know what? I’m hoping they’re not going to affect me as much,” she continued. “I’ll have the tools to know how to deal with them.”

The Texas native later talked of being on the receiving end of harsh cyberbullying via Twitter and Facebook. She filed a lawsuit against a California woman for allegedly recording a phone conversation between the two of them. Court papers say the edited recording paints the singer in a “false and negative light.”

In the Katie interview, Rimes hinted that she understands people’s criticism.

“People look at you, and go, ‘Why are you struggling?’… No one can quite understand why you hurt so badly,” she said.
