The LAPD investigates a sexual battery claim against The Voice‘s CeeLo Green. Details are emerging as the story develops.
CeeLo Green woke up to some ugly news this morning. Green is now the center of an Los Angeles Police Department investigation in which an anonymous victim accuses him of sexual battery. Details are sparse, but we do know CeeLo Green adamantly denies the sexual assault claim. It’s unclear if there will be enough evidence to bring formal sexual battery charges against him.
The common legal definition of sexual battery is “any unwanted form of contact with an intimate part of the body that is made for purposes of sexual arousal, sexual gratification, or sexual abuse.” The crime can be either a misdemeanor or a felony depending on the circumstances.
TMZ reports LAPD detectives were questioning employees at a restaurant in downtown Los Angeles, California, this afternoon. However, it is unknown if the restaurant is the place where the alleged sexual battery incident occurred.
Green spoke to TMZ and categorically denied the assault claims, stating, “Nothing ever happened there or anywhere else.”
CeeLo Green was previously arrested in July 2001 for smashing the windows of his then wife’s Jaguar during a heated argument. Green pleaded “no contest” to the misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct and spent two days in jail with one year of probation. In July 2011, he admitted to AOL Music that he struggles with manic tendencies.
“I was a kleptomaniac, pyromaniac, just plan maniac. I was enraged without an outlet. I was aggressive and… took pride in that. I was saved because of my associated with music. Music truly did calm a savage beast.”
