Thompson Square on first kiss: ‘She did the lean in’

The CMA Awards are where love and music meet. Thompson Square is just one of many superstar couples appearing on this year’s show. SheKnows was on the scene and got the inside scoop on their romance.

The 2012 CMA Awards are underway. Country music’s biggest stars are out in full force to celebrate another year of great music. And when it comes to country groups, Thompson Square is the one to watch.

The dynamic duo’s up for two CMA Awards: New Artist of the Year and Vocal Duo of the Year (for “Glass” and “I Got You”). Not only are they music partners, but they’re also husband and wife. Keifer and Shawna Thompson actual started off as rivals. They met in Nashville, while participating in a singing competition. There was an instant connection, and the rest is country music history.

They’ve been married for 13 years and still have that spark. And they have no problem using themselves as source material for their songs. Therefore, SheKnows asked the couple about two relationship milestones — the first kiss and the marriage proposal.

Keifer claims his wife initiated the lip lock, saying, “She did the lean in.”

Shawna chimed in, “He makes fun of me all the time because I sorta looked like a turtle, with my neck stretched out. I was trying to clue him in.”

No matter how funny she looked, Keifer was open to her advances.

He revealed, “Guys need help, sometimes.”

The couple dated for three years before finally taking the plunge. Coincidentally, Keifer popped the question around Halloween. He even carved out a pumpkin and used it to hide the ring. So, he’s a talented musician and a master craftsman, too!
