Put your paws out, Red Cross: Gaga donates $1 million

Lady Gaga donates $1 million to the New York Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy victims.

Red Cross, meet Lady Gaga — she’s going to donate $1 million for Hurricane Sandy victims.

Yep, one of the most famous pop stars in the world pledged the insanely generous donation on Tuesday evening. Lady Gaga announced her $1 million donation for Hurricane Sandy relief on her website.

Affectionately called “Mother Monster,” Gaga wrote:

“Today I pledge 1 million dollars to New York & The American Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy Relief. If it wasn’t for NYC: the Lower Eastside, Harlem, the Bronx and Brooklyn, I would not be the woman or artist that I am today. New York is relentless ambition, a drive to succeed, a place where there is a natural pursuit of diversity through compassion.”

“Please accept this gift on behalf of myself, my parents Joe and Cynthia, and my sister Natali; with our deepest gratitude New York for raising us. Thank you for helping me build my spirit. I will now help you rebuild yours.”

Gaga’s $1 million donation comes just days after celebrities and the Red Cross banded together to host a Hurricane Sandy relief concert, which raised $23 million for victims. The telethon featured Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band as well as Billy Joel, Christina Aguilera and Aerosmith.

E! News reports other major celebrities have been quick to be generous in the serious aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Chelsea Handler donated $100,000 and Dwyane Wade donated his salary from last Friday’s game, about $210,000.

For more on how you can help with Hurricane Sandy relief efforts, text REDCROSS to 90999 for an immediate $10 donation. (Note: You must be at least 18 years old or have parental permission. Message and data rates may apply. Please check out the Red Cross for full terms and conditions).

We congratulate Lady Gaga on her $1 million donation to the Red Cross. Paws up.
