The singer and company both announced a partnership between the two today. But when a singer signs to a modeling company, what exactly does it mean?
Singer Chris Brown announced today he would be joining a new agency team, but the company is surprising. That’s because it’s Wilhelmina Models, a company known best as a modeling agency. But according to both the company and singer, the partnership makes a lot more sense than what you might see at first glance.
“Art and style has always played a significant role in my life – it’s evolved with me throughout my career,” said Brown in a statement. “I’m so happy to join the Wilhelmina team, which has countless successes in the industry, to explore this new avenue.”
The company is working to expand their expertise to the world of art, fashion and beauty, and the addition of Brown fits perfectly within that goal.
“The Wilhelmina team will explore and develop fashion and beauty endorsement, editorial and licensing opportunities for the RCA Records, Grammy Award-winning entertainer, who is gearing up for his Carpe Diem world tour kicking off in Norway on November 17th,” said the company.
Wilhelmina has worked with such artists as Fergie and Keri Hilson, and companies such as Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss, Tommy Hilfiger, Donna Karan and COVERGIRL.
Despite Brown’s past, he continues to be popular: He has sold over 8 million albums worldwide, 30 million tracks, and so far has 1 billion views on Vevo. He also works with multiple charities. According to Wilhelmina’s rep, Brown has worked with organizations such as Best Buddies International, Jenesse Center Domestic Violence Intervention Program and the Debbie Allen Dance Academy. The singer also has his own charity, meant to help communities focus on “art” and “love,” called the Symphonic Love Foundation.
It’s still a mystery what the partnership means, but there is a good chance it means Brown will start appearing in more areas than just your radio. Let’s hope he’s not the new face of COVERGIRL.
