RED HOT BOOK OF THE WEEK:
Buddy: How a Rooster Made Me a Family Man

Brian McGrory’s memoir is the heartwarming story of an unlikely bond between man and rooster.

A reporter for the Boston Globe‘s metro section and the author of three best-selling novels — The Nominee, Deadline and Strangled — Brian McGrory’s first memoir is a far cry from the thrillers he’s written but is equally, if not more, entertaining.

About Buddy: How a Rooster Made Me a Family Man

When Brian McGrory’s dog, Harry, passed away, he never expected to fall in love with Harry’s veterinarian, Pam. A city-loving bachelor, Brian leads a very different life than Pam does in the suburbs. Plus, Pam has two daughters, two cats, two dogs, two rabbits, and, of course, a rooster named Buddy.

And let’s just say that Buddy doesn’t exactly welcome Brian with open wings. He loves the women of his household and is fiercely protective of them. In fact, he seems to be doing everything he can to get rid of his rival. Confronted by a bird that is constantly poised to attack, Brian isn’t sure how to respond to Buddy’s aggressive behavior.

But eventually he starts to envy Buddy’s relationship with Pam and her girls. Buddy is what Brian wants to be — strong and confident. As Brian’s nemesis slowly turns into his inspiration, he learns to live side-by-side with Buddy in this endearing story of an unlikely love.

As you read this unique story about getting a second chance at love and learning to accept things you never thought you could, you’ll be engaged from the opening sentence. And this is what makes this moving memoir our obvious pick for the Red Hot Book of the Week. Enjoy!
