Transformers 4 is slowly becoming a reality: Director Michael Bay has announced the latest addition to its cast. Plus, he’s confirmed that a new trilogy is in the works.
Paramount is dead-serious about extending the Transformers franchise. The studio has plans for not one, but three more films in the series. Director Michael Bay took to his website to clarify rumors regarding next year’s Transformers 4 and to confirm its new star.
First off, Transformers 4 is not a reboot. Bay sees it as another sequel that’s set in the same universe.
He wrote, “This movie takes place exactly 4 years after the war in Chicago. The story makes a very natural transition, and reason as to why we have a whole new cast. This Transformers will feel very different than the last three. We are embarking on a new trilogy.”
As for its cast, watch out for newcomer Jack Reynor. The director describes him as “an Irish kid that came to America with 30 bucks in his pocket.” He first saw him in a small Irish film called What Richard Did, and his performance blew him away. He calls Reynor “the real deal.”

Hopefully, Reynor has what it takes, because he’ll be sharing the screen with Oscar-nominee Mark Wahlberg. He’ll also star alongside Nicola Peltz (The Last Airbender) and Brenton Thwaites (Blue Lagoon: The Awakening). Even though it’s not a reboot, it feels like the franchise is getting a huge makeover.

The original Transformers trilogy made stars out of then-unknowns Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox. Perhaps the upcoming sequel can do the same for the new cast?
Transformers 4 hits theaters June 27, 2014.
