The run-up to February’s Grammy Awards night has begun, and the number of A-list acts set to perform is already impressive.
Rihanna. FUN. Taylor Swift, the Black Keys, Mumford & Sons. That’s just a partial list of performers set for live turns at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards, to air on CBS Sunday, Feb. 10 at 8/7c.
All of the artists are nominated for awards in a year when nominees are younger and cooler than the typical slate of Grammy nominees.
FUN. and Mumford & Sons are each nominated for six Grammys, both notably for Record of the Year, head-to-head in competition with each other. If we go by the numbers, Mumford & Sons is clearly in the lead: their album Babel sold almost a million and a half copies in 2012, while FUN.’s Some Nights has sold “only” 900,000 copies.
If we’re going by which band has a more irritatingly punctuated name, now, FUN. is in the lead there.
The Black Keys have five nominations, including Album of the Year for El Camino. The Black Keys won two Grammys in 2011, for the song “Tighten Up” and the album Brothers, voted the Best Alternative Music Album of 2011. Say, moving from “alternative” to mainstream smash, nicely done, Black Keys.

Ri-Ri, herself a five-time Grammy winner, has three nominations, including Best Pop Solo Performance for “Where Have you Been.” Taylor Swift also has three nominations, including Record of the Year for “We are Never Ever Getting Back Together.”
No telling who else will be nailed down for live Grammy performances, but Frank Ocean and Jack White are also nommed for Album of the Year, while Gotye and Kelly Clarkson both got Record of the Year nods. Maybe some of these performers will show up on the 10th.
Alabama Shakes, Hunter Hayes and the Lumineers were put forth as Best New Artist — might we see some “Ho! Hey!” onstage at the Staples Center?
