Lincoln leads the 2013 Oscar nominations

Steven Spielberg’s political biopic Lincoln leads the 2013 Oscars race, garnering 12 nominations this morning, and is followed closely by a dark horse no one saw coming.

He is one of the most beloved presidents in history, and now he is the most Oscar-nominated. The presidential biopic Lincoln nabbed 12 Academy Award nominations today, including best picture, best director, best adapted screenplay and acting noms for stars Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, and Tommy Lee Jones.

Coming in a close second with a whopping — and surprising — 11 nominations is fantasy adventure Life of Pi, which garnered nods for including best picture, best director for Ang Lee, best adapted screenplay, and several technical nominations.
