New Year, New Titles: Hot YA reads for 2013

With the new year comes a fresh crop of YA titles. Debut novels, sequels, and standalones, we have quite the list for you this month.

Level 2
Lenore Appelhans

Appelhans’ debut novel takes the reader to Level 2, the world beyond this one, a sort of afterlife with no apparent purpose. It’s where Felicia Ward has been since she died the day before she turned 18. All she has are her memories, but when someone she knew from her real life suddenly appears and tells her the truth about Level 2, everything changes. Appelhans herself is a YA blogger, so you can be sure she knows the ins and outs of everything young adult.

Prodigy
Marie Lu

The sequel to the well-received LegendProdigy continues to follow the story of June and Day. They live in what used to be the west coast of the United States, in an area now called the Republic. June was raised in privelege, bred to serve in a prestigious position in the military, while Day is from a poor area and must steal in order to survive. We won’t tell you anything else in case you haven’t read the first in this series yet, but rest assured, there’s a reason everyone is buzzing about this sequel.

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight
Jennifer E. Smith

Hadley Sullivan is NOT HAPPY. She missed her flight to London (where her father is getting remarried) and now she’s stuck at JFK airport. But then Hadley meets Oliver, who just happens to be sitting in her row on the plane. They chat, they connect, and before they know it, they’re landing in London. But then, they lose one another. This romantic story of missed connections, timing and fate is sure to please readers who truly believe in love at first sight.

The Tragedy Paper
Elizabeth LaBan

We already featured The Tragedy Paper here in the Book Lounge, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention it again as a book that’s sure to be one of the hottest YA reads of the year. It’s been compared to Jay Asher’s Thirteen Reasons Why, a breakout hit that topped the charts. You can read more about The Tragedy Paper in our Red Hot Book of the Week feature.
