Here Comes Honey Boo Boo star Mama June has learned plenty on the family’s bumpy skyrocket ride to fame. Hear what advice the mother of Alana Thompson has to share on dealing with haters and more.
Ask Mama June, mother of Here Comes Honey Boo Boostar Alana Thompson, a straight question, and she’ll do you the service of giving a straight answer. Just don’t ask it twice.
Speaking to Yahoo! Shine about her life in the spotlight, June Shannon admitted the one thing that makes her mad is “people who don’t listen.”
“I hate repeating things five times,” she explained. “It’s hard for me to let that go, so I usually just end up hollering at them. As you can see on the show, I am pretty loud.”

And what is one thing the rest of us could learn from the woman who made go-go juice famous on the child pageant circuit?
“People are too worried about what other people think about them,” Mama June believes. “Who cares? If you don’t like me, don’t talk to me. Trust me — I was fine before you and I’ll be fine after you.”
This wisdom has been put to practice, as TLC’s hit show has put her family into the criticism spotlight. When asked how she helps her kids deal with the negativity, the 33-year-old grandmother shared some more wisdom.
“I just tell the kids to ignore them and not care what anybody thinks of you. People are usually really respectful, and we haven’t really dealt with rude people face-to-face. We don’t represent rednecks or the state of Georgia — we represent our family.”

And what is the one thing Mama June would warn another family about were it poised for the same success Here Comes Honey Boo Boo has brought her own family?
“The attention. Nobody could predict that it’d be this big, but you should prepare for anything,” June Shannon explained. “I didn’t realize paparazzi would hang around this much. I also didn’t realize fans would approach us this much, but we do love them and don’t mind them at all. It’s great to meet people from all over the country.”
