So many exciting things have happened in preparation for the new Boy Meets World spin-off, we just had to let you in on all the details!
Phew! Girls Meets World went from a rumored idea to a show nearing production in a matter of months! Before the crew starts filming some time this month, we thought you deserved a rundown of all the latest news from the show. A lot has happened since they cast Rowan Blanchard to play Cory and Topanga’s daughter!
Riley earns a best friend and a geeky buddy
During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Blanchard, 11, said Riley and her dad, Cory (Ben Savage), are a lot alike.
“She’s a lot like her dad in that she’s not rebel,” she told EW. “She struggles with that a little bit I think because her best friend who is edgy and stuff [and that] isn’t Riley. Riley wants to be her friend in a sense.”
Just like her dad, Riley is set to have a rebellious best friend. Her name is Maya and she’s a regular prankster, just like Riley’s uncle, Shawn. The girl behind Maya is actress and singer Sabrina Carpenter. The 13-year-old has seen success already in multiple shows and took part in the upcoming show, The Goodwin Games. She’s also a singer whose song, “Smile,” was featured on a Disney Fairies CD. We’ve been promised that Maya will have no singing or dancing subplots, though. Girl Meets World will stay true to the normal, everyday life plots of its Boy Meets World predecessor.
Will Rider Strong also sign on for Boy Meets World sequel? >>
Riley will also have a buddy in Shamus Farkle, who will replace Minkus as the spin-off’s resident genius. According to EW, the character description of Shamus says, “Riley’s rebellious best friend Maya is his nemesis, Riley gets between them to save his life. Farkle is wildly attached and protective of both girls and loves equally that Riley doesn’t make him miserable and Maya does.”
Riley’s got a big brother
Cory and Topanga’s (Danielle Fishel) oldest child is Elliott Matthews. He’s a well-meaning big brother who has a tendency to use Riley for wrestling practice. His character description describes him as a “thinking man’s jock.” However, his silliness often leaves his parents worried that he’ll follow in Cory’s brother Eric’s footsteps and lose intelligence over time instead of gain it. That’s one way to bring back one of the best parts of the old show!
Cory’s got a job
Obviously. But do you know what Cory does for a living? It turns out that during the time since Boy Meets World left the air and Girl Meets World became an actual thing, Cory became a teacher! That’s all fine for everyone else, but Riley’s not too thrilled about it when Cory becomes her teacher. According to Blanchard, Cory will sometimes be extra hard on Riley in class. But it’s still nice to have him nearby when she needs someone to talk to at school.

Those are the best and latest breaks from the Girl Meets World production! There’s still no official word on if they’ll reprise the roles of Shawn, Mr. Feeny, or Cory’s parents, but we’ve got our fingers crossed!
