A Good Day to Die Hard

This action flick opened Valentine’s/President’s Day weekend to earn $25 million, giving the filmmakers good reason to shout “Yippee ki yay!” With hottie Jai Courtney playing Bruce Willis‘ son, a sixth film is perfectly set up, though it hasn’t been confirmed. We’re guessing the big box office numbers will send the studio into development pronto.

This comedy discovered its true self as it earned an additional $23 million this weekend. Melissa McCarthy is rumored to be appearing in The Hangover 3, which could end up making for one fabulously funny film we can all drink to.

This Valentine’s day no-brainer brought in a lovely $23 million, adding to book-author Nicholas Sparks’ movie magic. Star Julianne Hough is currently in production for the movie Skum Rocks! appearing with such strange bedfellows as Kevin Bacon, Traci Lords and Three’s Company’s Joyce DeWitt.

Escape from Planet Earth

This animated film escaped the box office with a stellar $16 million. This journey to planet kid proved to be an excellent destination with it’s supernova voice cast that includes Sarah Jessica Parker and Sofia Vergara.

Warm Bodies

Our favorite zom-com revived the box office with another $9 million this weekend. This zombie-human love story stole the hearts of many teens, but we can’t help but wonder: Wouldn’t the zombie R be pretty stinky? We’re just sayin’.

Beautiful Creatures

This YA-novel-turned-movie ended up not so pretty when it came to ticket sales, given that it opened to only $7.4 million. The filmmakers took a creative risk by casting nearly unknown actors Alice Englert and Alden Ehrenreich to star in the film, so maybe sixth place isn’t so bad.

Side Effects

This psychotic thriller is still holding on to its sanity, swallowing $6.3 million this weekend. Rooney Mara and Channing Tatum play a not-so-happy couple, making this a curious choice to see on Valentine’s Day weekend.

Silver Linings Playbook

This film tackled another $6 million at the box office, no doubt fueled by its eight Oscar noms, including one for Best Picture. This movie’s combination of football and dance makes it a real crowd-pleaser and one that’s certain to score well with the Academy.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters

Jeremy Renner’s latest flick scraped an additional $3.4 million worth of candy from audiences needing to get their sugar fix. If you missed this fairly tale revamp, don’t fret — more fairy tale movies will be making their way to a theater near you, including Jack the Giant Slayer staring Warm Bodies‘ Nicholas Hoult.

Zero Dark Thirty

Though this has been nominated for five Oscars, we’re not sure how many statues it will take home, given its controversial nature. The film’s breakout star, Jason Clarke, can be seen in the upcoming remake of The Great Gatsby, which is set to release in May of this year.
