Janet Jackson is officially a married woman. The singer and Wissam Al Mana broke the news they are man and wife in a joint statement issued Monday, that was part announcement — and also partly designed to squash rumors!
In a statement to ET, Mr. and Mrs. Al Mana dropped the marriage bomb, explaining, “The rumours regarding an extravagant wedding are simply not true. Last year we were married in a quiet, private, and beautiful ceremony.”

Further downplaying the role extravagance and frivolous spending played in their wedding day, they went on to explain, “Our wedding gifts to one another were contributions to our respective favourite children’s charities.”

This is the third marriage for the 46-year-old singer, who aims to keep her niece Paris Jackson out of the limelight as long as possible, but not the first ultra-private relationship. Jackson’s marriage to James DeBarge was annulled in 1985, while in 2000 she divorced Rene Elizondo Jr., whom she had secretly wed in 1991. Nine years is a long time to keep a marriage under wraps!
Speaking of their longing for the quiet life, the newlyweds’ message went on to request, “We would appreciate that our privacy is respected and that we are allowed this time for celebration and joy. With love, Wissam and Janet”
