Oscar Pistorius is holding a private memorial for his slain girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, despite being accused of her murder.
Despite being accused of her murder, Oscar Pistorius plans to hold a private memorial service for his slain girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, the Olympian’s rep confirmed.
The service was meant to be totally under the radar, but since the news leaked to the press the family released a statement addressing the plans.
“Oscar Pistorius, will hold a private memorial service for Reeva Steenkamp at the house of his uncle, Arnold Pistorius, tonight,” read the statement.

“Oscar specifically requested the memorial service as he continues to grieve and remains in deep mourning for the loss of his partner Reeva.
“Since it is such a sensitive issue, Oscar has asked for a private service with people who share his loss, including his family members who knew and loved Reeva as one of their own.
“The Pistorius family would like to make a personal request to the media, to please respect their privacy at their home in Pretoria tonight,” the statement concluded.
The South African athlete is accused of murdering Steenkamp in cold blood on Valentine’s Day after an argument. Pistorius maintains that he mistook his girlfriend for a robber when he shot her through the bathroom door.
“I’m acutely aware of people gaining entries to homes to commit crime, I’ve received death threats. I sleep with my 9mm under my bed. I woke up to close the sliding door and heard a noise in the bathroom,” he said in a written statement to the court during his bail hearing.

“I was scared and didn’t switch on the light. I got my gun and moved towards the bathroom. I screamed at the intruder because I did not have my legs on I felt vulnerable. I fired shots through the bathroom door and told Reeva to call police.”
“I walked back to the bed and realized Reeva was not in bed. It’s then [sic] it dawned on me it could be her in there. I kicked the door open. Called paramedics and complex security. I tried to carry her downstairs for help. I tried to help her but she died in my arms.”
Pistorius is free on bail until trial, which could be anywhere from six months to a year away. He is forbidden from returning to the home where Steenkamp died.
